Welcome to Part 1 of the Drift Throw Crochet Along.
It’s finally time to begin drifting along together!
Over the past few weeks I’ve shared the story and inspiration behind the Drift Throw, along with a full “What You’ll Need” setup post to help you get prepared before we start. If you haven’t read those yet, I’d really recommend starting there first so you can fully settle into the project and get everything ready to go.
Over on Facebook and Instagram I also shared the full CAL schedule and dates so you know what to expect over the coming weeks.
For Part 1, we’re going to ease ourselves in gently with the beginning stages of the blanket and the first collection of textures and techniques that make Drift what it is.
Please don’t worry about keeping up perfectly or getting everything done immediately. This CAL is here to be enjoyed. Take your time, settle into the stitches, and let yourself drift along with it at your own pace.
So... here goes!
Rows – Edging Rows 1-2, Main Rows 1-7
Abbreviations
Htr - Half treble crochetPuff - Puff stitch
I am sharing video tutorials for all techniques used in this pattern according to what's included in the CAL each week. Scroll to the bottom of the page for direct links to all the Ray’s Room Socials where you’ll find the tutorial videos.
Pattern Notes
This pattern is written using UK terminology.
The turning chain at the beginning of each row is counted in your stitch count.
At the beginning of a row after turning chain the first stitch is worked into the stitch at the base of the turning chain. At the end of a row your last stitch is worked into the last actual stitch of the row, not into the turning chain from the beginning of the last row.
Edging Rows 1-2 (start here)
This pattern includes 4 edging rows. We will work 1-2 at the start. Then continue from there with the main rows. And then work edging rows 3-4 at the end of the throw.
In colour A
Edging row 1 – Work 152 chainless htr foundation (152)
Edging row 2 – Turn, ch2, htr in each stitch to the end (152)
Now continue with the main rows from where you are. Do not fasten off.
Main Rows 1-7
Row 1-4 – Turn, ch2, htr in each stitch to the end (152)
Change to colour B
Row 5 – Turn, ch4, dtr in each stitch to the end (152)
Change to colour A
Row 6 – Turn, ch2, htr in each stitch to the end (152) take your hook out of the loop and place a stitch marker in the loop.
Put a slip knot on your hook with colour C
Row 7 – DO NOT TURN, instead go back to the beginning of Row 6 without turning and start here by working a dc into the top of the first htr from Row 6, dc in the next 2 stitches, puff in the next stitch, *dc into the next 2 stitches, puff in the next* repeat *to* until you have 4 stitches left from row 6, dc in each of the next 3 stitches, don’t stitch into the last (151) FASTEN OFF colour C

And just like that, Drift has officially begun.
Over the coming days I’ll be sharing tutorial videos for all of the techniques used in this section across my socials, so if there’s anything you’re unsure of, don’t panic - I’ll be guiding you through it step by step. I’m sharing the first video today and the rest will follow this week.
And I’ll be back here next week with Part 2 of the Drift Throw CAL.
